How Georgia paychecks are taxed

Georgia taxes all income at one flat rate. For 2026 the rate dropped from 5.19% to 4.99%, and employers switched to the lower rate on July 1, 2026. The cut applies to the whole year, so any extra withheld earlier comes back at tax time.

Before the rate applies, wages are reduced by a standard deduction of $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, up from $12,000 and $24,000. Each dependent adds a $5,000 exemption, which this calculator does not include.

Traditional 401(k) contributions also lower Georgia taxable wages. Georgia has no city income taxes and no state disability or paid leave payroll tax.
